'The Walking Dead' Prequel Spoilers, News: 'Fear the Walking Dead' to Debut Summer 2015
"The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman has confirmed that AMC will be coming up with a companion series for the hit zombie apocalypse TV series.
The companion series will serve as the prequel to the original series and will bear the title "Fear the Walking Dead," the Entertainment Weekly reported.
In a post on Twitter, Kirkman told fans to wait for more official news about the new series, which is set to debut in late summer with a six-episode first season.
"IT'S OFFICIAL! The walking dead companion show on AMC is called FEAR THE WALKING DEAD! Expect more news very soon! #FearTheWalkingDead," Kirkman told his 481,000 followers. The announcement was retweeted 7,191 times.
The new show will take place in Los Angeles and stars Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam, the Entertainment Weekly said.
Kirkman, who created "The Walking Dead" series, co-wrote the pilot with Dave Erickson of "Sons of Anarchy."
The two, together with Greg Nicotero, will also be the new show's executive producers alongside Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert, Deadline reported.
Erickson will serve as showrunner while Adam Davidson will direct the pilot.
Cliff Curtis, who previously starred in "Gang Related," plays the starring role of Sean Cabrera, a teacher who shares a son with his ex-wife. Kim Dickens of "Sons of Anarchy" is set to co-star as Nancy, a guidance counselor who works at the school with Sean and is seeing him romantically, Deadline reported.
Frank Dillane, who appeared in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," co-stars as Nancy's son Nick, who is battling a drug problem.
Alycia Debnam Carey ("Into the Woods") will play Nancy's ambitious daughter, Ashley, who is the polar opposite of Nick and dreams of leaving L.A. for Berkeley when the apocalypse strikes.
