'The Walking Dead' Season 5 Spoilers, Recap: Midseason Premiere A 'Brutal' Episode; Ricks Finds New Love Interest
"The Walking Dead" heads back to TV screens this Sunday, Feb. 8, after its fifth season break.
Robert Kirkman, the show's creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman, revealed in a recent interview that the premiere episode will make fans both happy and angry as it will be a particularly "brutal" episode.
He also revealed a possible new love interest for Rick (Andrew Lincoln). In past episodes, Rick had several poignant moments with some female characters on the show, most notably Michonne (Danai Gurira), with whom he had a solid relationship and leaned on considerably for support. Up to the last episode before the midseason break, they remained friends and there were no signs of any romance brewing.
Moreover, Rick had to care for his son and his newborn daughter in addition to ensuring the group survives.
This all might change as Rick heads into the second half of Season 5 where he is due to meet a mystery blonde in the street and signs of attraction between the two would soon crop up. Speculation is rife that this woman will be named Samantha and she will be played by Alexandra Breckenridge.
Kirkman, in the interview with Entertainment Weekly, said Sunday's premiere would be a "very special and unique episode because there's a lot of magic in the episode as well as a lot of really cool stuff that people are going to be very excited about."
He also said the survivors led by Rick would soon go to a new location. This led to speculation that they will make their way to the Alexandria Safe Zone, which is mentioned in the books the series is based on.
If the gang does make it to the safe zone, it is pretty certain that they will end up meeting Aaron, who is described as gay person in the books. Ross Marquand, who has been added to the cast as a regular this season, could be stepping in the role of Aaron. However, no official statement has been made on the specific role he will play.
