'The Walking Dead' season 7 news: Maggie dies in alternate death scene; Michael Cudlitz admits actors lied about premiere
Maggie (Lauren Cohan) was Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) victim in an alternate death scene for the season premiere of "The Walking Dead" season 7.
A clip of the alternate scene popped up just before Sunday's highly anticipated season 7 premiere, which revealed that Negan bludgeoned both Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn (Steven Yeun) to death.
Earlier this year, it was reported that AMC had been filming multiple death scenes for the highly anticipated premiere of "The Walking Dead" season 7. This was reportedly being done to ensure that the identity of Negan's poor victim/s would remain a secret until the premiere airs. All 11 of the cast members who were seen kneeling at Negan's feet in the season 6 finale reportedly had to film their death scenes. So far, only Maggie's has leaked.
In the clip, which was acquired by We Got This Covered, Negan's "eeny meeny miney moe" routine has him picking Maggie as his first victim. Glenn is heard screaming in anguish before he gets knocked out. The horrifying video shows Maggie receiving two brutal blows to the head but staying upright and spitting out blood.
Just as he did in the version that aired, Negan says, "Ooh, look at that. Taking it like a champ."
AMC has yet to comment on the source of the "leak" and on the authenticity of the clip. It remains unclear whether this version of events was in consideration for the season 7 premiere viewers saw on Sunday or if it was merely filmed for Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) visions of his friends getting beaten to death by Negan.
Meanwhile, Cudlitz recently held a conference call Q&A in which he revealed that the "Walking Dead" cast had lied for months to keep the season 7 premiere from being spoiled.
"One of the good things was that we were able to spread a rumor that not even the cast knew what was going to happen and that they were going to find out when they came back and they filmed everybody's death scene just in case," the actor said. "And they said they were re-doing contract negotiations for some of the cast — all that was a lie," he added.
"The Walking Dead" season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
