'The Walking Dead' season 7 spoilers: Next episode introduces The Kingdom and King Ezekiel
The post-apocalyptic world is about to get bigger for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his crew as "The Walking Dead" expands its narrative to Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) Sanctuary and Ezekiel's (Khary Payton) Kingdom in the upcoming episodes of season 7.
After the devastating loss of two people from Rick's ranks, courtesy of Negan and his barbed wire bat, it looks like their estranged companions Carol (Melissa McBride) and Morgan (Lennie James) will be forging new alliances in the next episode of "The Walking Dead."
Morgan seems to have settled in rather quickly in the utopian community known as the Kingdom as shown in an official sneak peek. Carol, who's in a wheelchair and is recovering from a gunshot wound she got from the previous season, has her inhibitions. What will happen when she finally comes face to face with the man who calls himself King Ezekiel? Will her impression of him be good or bad?
The Kingdom is another post-apocalyptic community, much like Alexandria and the Hilltop, trying to preserve a normal way of life behind fortified walls. It could well be the last remaining monarchy in the world presided over by an enigmatic ruler, Ezekiel, who always keeps his walker-eating pet tiger Shiva by his side. In the comic book series, he eventually became one of Rick's strong allies in the fight against Negan.
How will Carol and Morgan's presence there affect the people's way of life? How long will they be staying there? And how will they react when they find out what Negan did to Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Daryl (Norman Reedus)?
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Lincoln said that everybody's reaction to the event will be different in a deeply personal way and they will all have to deal with it individually. He added that despite the grief and the tragedy always that seem to hound the show, "The Walking Dead" is ultimately a show about hope.
"There's a great Nelson Mandela quote that has been bouncing around in my head the whole season: 'The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling but in rising every time we fall,'" Lincoln quoted.
"The Walking Dead" season 7 episode 2 titled "The Well" airs on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
