Apart from possibly hinting at the identity of Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) victim in the highly anticipated season 7 premiere, the latest teaser for "The Walking Dead" may have also revealed that one of the most infamous scenes from the "Walking Dead" comics may soon play out.

As avid "Walking Dead" fans know, one of the most climactic moments in the Governor storyline in the show's comics was missing from the AMC series. This, the moment in which the Governor cuts off Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) hand, never materialized onscreen.

But this could still play out in "The Walking Dead," albeit with a different villain.

In the sneak peek for "The Walking Dead" season 7 that was released at the New York Comic Con, Negan talks to Rick about his victim and asks if he/she was Rick's "right hand man." He starts talking about the importance of having a right hand and then asks one of his own men to hand him Rick's hatchet. Negan places the hatchet in his belt loop and drags Rick into the RV.

Should Negan actually cut off one of Rick's hands, it would be a nod to issue #28 of the Robert Kirkman-penned "Walking Dead" comics. While the scene would be surely emotionally distressing, it would nonetheless satisfy many fans' wishes to see that particular moment play out on the television series.

According to ComicBook.com, while "The Walking Dead" executive producer Greg Nicotero is still mostly keeping mum about the fast-approaching season opener, he did tease this moment in a recent interview.

"I think it's safe to say that the axe could play a prominent part in the episode," he said.

Last year, Lincoln admitted to ComicBook.com that he had been asking the show's producers to have Rick's hand cut off. "You know, I campaigned two seasons ago when the Governor was around... I was saying, 'You've gotta do the hand guys!" he said.

Meanwhile, "The Walking Dead" actor Ross Marquand recently confirmed that the season 7 premiere will be all about Negan trying to break Rick down.

"I think it's the complete emasculation of Rick and you get to see a huge power shift in the group," the actor said to the news outlet. "What you'll see is that the entire way their society has been structured, the power and the leadership roles, will now be completely thrown on their head," he added.

"The Walking Dead" season 7 debuts on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
