In a few days, fans of the TV adaptation of "The Walking Dead" will have the surprise of their lives as the premiere episode of the seventh season is slated to reveal the answer to last season's cliffhanger. But fans were recently treated to better news. AMC has renewed the show for another season.

During a two-hour retrospect for "The Walking Dead," the network announced the renewal of Robert Kirkman's zombie drama. The eighth season of the show will be composed of 16 episodes and it will premiere in October 2017.

"Eeny, meeny, miny, more," AMC boss Charlie Collier said in a statement, referencing the threat given by Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan in the finale of season 6. "What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans. And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us," he added.

Since the eighth season is still a year away, fans of the show are more concerned about what's in store for season 7.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Kirkman teased that people are probably going to hate him for what's next. But he told the publication that the unbearable cliffhanger has brought great results. The agonizing wait has led people to talk about the show during the gap between the seasons.

As previously reported, recent speculations suggested that Daryl (Norman Reedus) will be dead in the upcoming season. A trailer revealed at the New York Comic Convention held last Oct. 6 to 9 featured a white blanket next to a pool of blood. Since Daryl was the only character draped with a blanket in the season finale, many are convinced that the character is going to be Negan's victim.

"The Walking Dead" season 7 will premiere episode titled "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be" is expected to launch this Sunday, Oct. 23, at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
