The yet untitled spinoff of "The Walking Dead" is going full steam ahead. Recently it was announced that Kim Dickens, who appeared in "Gone Girl," will step in as the female lead and star opposite Cliff Curtis, who was previously announced as the male lead.

The spinoff is still in its pilot stage and has not been given the go signal by AMC. But with Robert Kirkman on board as creator, the series looks set to air sometime in 2015. In addition to Kirkman, who is the creator of the graphic novels that inspired the super hit TV series "The Walking Dead," "Sons of Anarchy" Producer Dave Erickson has also come on board as co-creator. The pilot for the series is set to be directed by Adam Davidson.

The series, which is described as a "companion" to the main "Walking Dead" series, is rumored to be set in Los Angeles. Dickens landed the role of the female lead Nancy Tomkins after a protracted casting process. Currently the spinoff is code named "Cobalt" and will feature Tomkins playing a guidance counselor who is romantically involved with Curtis' character named Sean Cabrera.

Screenrant says Dickens and Curtis, who is a school teacher, will possibility be working in the same school at the start of the Zombie epidemic. In addition, Tomkins, who is single, has two teenage children -- Nick Tomkins (played by Frank Dillane) and Ashley Tomkins (Alycia Debnam Carey). Nick it seems will be a teen who is plagued with troubles.

As for Dickens, her character Nancy is described to be somewhat of a "girl next door" type, but this it seems is just a front. Behind his pleasant looks is a troubled past which she is trying to hide. Deadline says this will come back to haunt her during the series.
