With the anticipation around the release of the latest installment in the Witcher franchise building every week, fans of the game got good news recently when they learnt that digital copies of the game would unlock on May 18 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Specifically, the unlocking would take place at 4 p.m. PDT.

CD Projekt Red, the studio behind "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," announced recently that the game had gone gold. The announcement meant that the development and testing phase of the game was complete. However, major studios often continue to tweak elements of games even after they have already gone gold. It is expected that CD Projekt Red would follow the same route.

Soon after the news of it going gold surfaced, the studio released the details about the first availability of the digital copies. It announced that the game would land on May 19 at 1 a.m. CET, which meant that it would arrive a few hours earlier in the PDT and EDT time zones. Those who are planning to pre-order the game are in luck as CD Projekt Red is offering the game at a discount. As per the terms and conditions of the discount, anyone who pre-orders between now and May 18 can purchase the game for $54 compared to its full price of $60.

Coming to the download size for the game, Xbox One users are going to have to download a 25 GB file while those using the PC and PS4 will get a 35 GB file. However, when the files are installed on the Xbox One it will take up over 30 GB of space.

News that the game is rapidly moving towards it scheduled release date is great for fans who were disappointed when its release was postponed last year.

The fans have also been getting tantalizing new details about the game over the past few weeks. IGN recently noted that "Witcher 3" has improved over the previous game. There is more skill-based combat now, and players can use a variety of oils on the blades that Geralt uses to inflict more damage.
