Only two weeks left before "This Is Us" returns following a distressing midseason finale that saw Toby (Chris Sullivan) flatline on the operating table. The comedy-drama television series will resume airing on Jan. 10, 2017 with the episode titled "The Right Thing to Do" where viewers will finally find out what happened to Toby.

NBC has released the synopsis for the upcoming installment but unfortunately, it does not state whether Toby is still alive. Instead, it only previews Kate's (Chrissy Metz) emotional state as she struggles with her feelings in the aftermath of Toby's heart attack.

Speaking to Us Weekly earlier this month, Metz said Kate doesn't want to lose Toby.

"She's not ready to handle that. I think she's going to pray, pray, pray. They just finally made an agreement to really, truly love each other. I think she's just like, 'Wow, we just decided that we're going to be together.' It just goes to show how quickly life can change and things can turn and you really have to be grateful for every moment; you really do," the actress explained.

Indeed, if there's someone who should be living life to the fullest right now, it would be William (Ron Cephas Jones). In earlier episodes, Randall's (Sterling K. Brown) biological father was revealed to have stomach cancer with a grim prognosis. In episode 11, William will be devoting more of his time in his new relationship with Jessie (Denis O'Hare), something that Randall will have to get used to.

Meanwhile, Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Sloane (Milana Vayntrub) will be thrown for a loop when Olivia (Janet Montgomery) suddenly resurfaces.

Interspersed with these events, viewers will also be taken back to the time when Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) found out that they are expecting triplets. The Pearson couple will have to look for a home that they can afford and can accommodate three babies.

"This Is Us" airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
