'This Is Us' season 1, episode 11 spoilers: Randall gets used to William and Jesse's relationship

Things have been coming along just fine during the Pearson's extended family Christmas dinner until Toby (Chris Sullivan) collapsed in the living room in "This Is Us." And while the majority is worried about Kate's (Chrissy Metz) on-again, off-again beau, some are looking forward to the subtle bomb that William (Ron Cephas Jones) dropped on his son during the holidays.

Spoilers suggest that with the cat now out of the bag, William will be more open spending time with his special friend, Jesse (Dennis O'Hare). While there are no specifics as to how that will turn out, the mid-season premiere titled "The Right Thing To Do" will have the two getting more interaction, which in turn will be something that Randall (Sterling K. Brown) will need to get used to. It can be remembered that even with his impressive wit, the adopted Pearson kid could still sometimes be a little bit naive. Case in point was when his eldest daughter, Tess (Eris Baker), still needed to blatantly tell him that grandpa is gay.

Show creator Dan Fogelman has previously shared that they are planning to milk in William and Jesse's relationship moving forward in the series especially with the former living on borrowed time.

"It's a big story we explore in the next episode of the show when we return. It's not that William is gay (or bi) that throws Randall, particularly (although it does shock the hell out of him). It's that suddenly he's losing time with his father (and there may not be much time left) to another person. It's a very sweet father-son story," he told Deadline in an episodic post-mortem session earlier this month.

The show has been building up the relationship between Randall and William which has arguably thrown a lot of viewers out of the loop with its unexpected twists and turns. "This Is Us" was able to hone a story that has gone on a very different trajectory compared with how it started and frankly, with how this kind of narrative usually go. Still, despite the fact that the William and Jesse have continued to bond over the last couple of episodes, it seems like William's death is still imminent with a flash-forward that shows Randall crying beside his father's belongings.

"This Is Us" returns for the latter half of its debut season on Jan. 10, 2017 on NBC.
