'This Is Us' season 1 news, spoilers: New promo shows Jack and Rebecca preparing for the triplets' birth; will Toby die?

NBC's breakout drama "This Is Us" returns next week, and a new teaser for the show's midseason premiere has been released.

The back half of season 1 left off with Toby (Chris Sullivan) being rushed to the hospital after suffering from a heart attack during his Christmas vacation with Kate (Chrissy Metz) and her family. Although his fate wasn't revealed during that episode, thee's a chance that Toby may not have survived.

NBC has recently released a promo clip for the next episode, and it previews a few heartfelt moments shared by some of the characters. In the teaser, Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) learn they are having triplets, which makes them very excited to start preparing for the birth of their kids. Randall (Sterling K. Brown) is seen having a serious conversation with his father, William (Ron Cephas Jones), while Kate shares a light moment with her brother, Kevin (Justin Hartley). Towards the end of the video, Jack surprises Rebecca with the work he did for the triplets' room.

The tearjerker ensemble family drama picks up next week with Kate struggling with her feelings after Toby's heart attack. While William spends more time with Jesse, Randall must learn to understand and get used to the idea of his father engaging in a new relationship. Meanwhile back in the past, Jack and Rebecca learn they're expecting triplets. The couple eventually begins finding a way to afford a new home that can accommodate three babies. In the present, Olivia (Janet Montgomery) unexpectedly returns to the fold, making Kevin and Sloane (Milana Vayntrub) both confused and surprised.

For viewers who can't wait for new episodes, they can check out a marathon of previous "This Is Us" episodes on Jan. 7. Reports say that the episodes will be simulcast on three different TV channels: USA Network, E! and Bravo. This will allow viewers a chance to catch up with the show completely and to know where they left off prior to the holiday.
