'This Is Us' season 1 spoilers: Chrissy Metz teases Kate's weight loss journey; William's cancer progresses
Things are not going to get easier for Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz) on the upcoming episodes of NBC's rookie drama "This Is Us" season 1.
The Golden-Globe nominated drama recently returned for the back half of its first season, and it finally resolved the major cliffhanger involving Toby's (Chris Sullivan) condition. Kate's boyfriend had a heart attack during the December midseason finale, and it turns out that he survived his initial surgery. However, Kate can't help but get emotional after it was revealed that complications still lie ahead for Toby.
Metz recently caught up with The Hollywood Reporter, and she teased that more hardships are in store for her character. The actress also confirmed that Kate's journey to lose weight will also be further explored in the story.
"The trajectory is that Kate will be losing weight just as I will in real life to reflect the character in her arc and her journey...The weight loss is definitely going to happen," she hinted. "When Kate starts to realize it's more about how she feels about herself and not necessarily a number on the scale, that might take a backseat, but right now she has been obsessed with losing weight to make her happy," the actress added.
On another note, Toby isn't the only character that viewers need to worry about. William's (Ron Cephas Jones) cancer has progressed, and the midseason premiere saw him asking Randall (Sterling K. Brown) to take him off of chemo since he feels that it only makes him sicker. TV Guide notes that the decision pushed the father and son to have a conversation about William's final days and where he wants to die. This led fans to speculate that the series might feature William's death before the season wraps up.
"This Is Us" season 1 airs every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET on NBC
