Tim Tebow news update: Critics speak on Tebow's new professional career
Tim Tebow is a well-known quarterback who made a splash in the National Football League (NFL). However, he is now out of the NFL and is hoping to make a successful transition from being a professional football player to a baseball player.
After being out of action in the NFL, Tebow revealed that he will be trying to play in Major League Baseball (MLB). Around a week ago, it was announced that Tebow was signed by the New York Mets as he was given a minor league contract.
While this is a bold move, many are criticising this decision by the former quarterback.
The Wall Street Journal even went as far as reporting that Tebow signed on to the wrong sport. Suggesting that handball should have been the right choice for the former quarterback, it is reportedly believed that Tebow has a greater chance of success if he chose to play this sport.
Meanwhile, a report points out that Tebow is only a part of the MLB due to his presence in a more global stage. It mentioned that Tebow played a bit of baseball during his high school days, but the $100,000 signing bonus is nothing as Tebow will ensure that attention will be given to the Mets and the money they spent will be returned in merchandise sales.
One way to show this is a marketing move is through the open workouts for Tebow. This will undoubtedly bring in baseball and Tebow fans to the Tradition Field Complex and make more noise about Tebow's arrival in the league.
Paul Taglieri, the Mets executive director of minor league facilities, hopes that fans will take advantage of Tebow's public workout.
"We're hoping it's a great turnout. Honestly, I don't know what to expect on Monday, but we had tremendous crowd this past spring with us making the World Series in 2015. Instructional league has been open to the public, but it's been mostly families. There's been little interest from the public until now," Taglieri said.
It should be interesting to see how Tebow's career will turn out.
