'Transparent' season 3 cast news, spoilers: Caitlyn Jenner's season 3 role revealed
While "I Am Cait" star Caitlyn Jenner's guest spot in "Transparent" season 3 was confirmed way back in April, the details of her role in the Amazon Video comedy have only just surfaced.
In August, it was revealed that the TV personality will be playing herself in the upcoming season of "Transparent." Now, series creator Jill Soloway has finally spilled the beans on Jenner's role and the circumstances of her guest stint.
"She's in a dream sequence," Soloway told Variety. "Ali (Gaby Hoffmann) has a kind of wild, nitrous-inspired, goddess-worshiping dream sequence. And you can't talk about the goddess without [feminist playwright-poet] Ntozake Shange and Caitlyn Jenner, who are both in the dream," she added.
Soloway first announced that Jenner will be appearing in an episode of "Transparent" season 3 at the GLAAD Media Awards in April. While the "Transparent" boss shared that many of the trans women who work on the series also work on "I Am Cait," Soloway did not disclose any details about Jenner's guest role.
In August, "Transparent" executive producer Victor Hsu told Us Weekly that the scene in which Jenner appears will have elements of fantasy. He also revealed that Jenner will be appearing as herself in the episode.
Additionally, Hsu told the outlet during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour that Jenner is just one of several guest actors appearing in the sequence.
The "Transparent" EP also explained how Jenner was cast in the show's upcoming season, saying, "It was kind of a room idea when the writers were getting together about who would be great in this sequence to join us, and Caitlyn's name came up..." According to Hsu, Jenner later visited the writers' room and met all the writers before agreeing to participate in the series.
Jenner then spent a day on the "Transparent" set to film her guest spot. Hsu said that she was "terrific."
Speaking with Variety, Hoffman said: "She was great. She was a total natural. She was funny. She was great at improvising."
"Transparent" season 3 drops Friday, Sept. 23, on Amazon.
