Many fans are waiting for the release of "True Detective" season 3, despite the criticism that the series faced with its second season. Reports stated that viewers reacted negatively towards the narrative that was presented in season 2, which has put the show's fate in question.

After more than a year with no confirmation, the programming chief of HBO Casey Bloys was able to share some insight about what is going on with the series. With that, fans will be unhappy to hear that they have not even started production for "True Detective" season 3. This means that there is still no story being written for the series.

Nevertheless, he remains hopeful for the show's fate. "They're thinking about ideas, and when they find something, that's when I'll hear from them. I don't have anything to report on either of them other than they're thinking about what the best-next version is," he said.

Further, many believe that it could be canceled due to the low ratings. It was also speculated that HBO is most likely putting most of their focus on the new show "Westworld."

Another possible reason for the delay regarding the series is the fact that director Cary Fukunaga revealed that he will no longer be involved in the series. In addition, writer Nick Pizzolatto is currently working on another series, which could further delay production for "True Detective" season 3.

There are speculations that the series will start production by summer of next year. However, fans will have to keep waiting for more updates on the series.
