'True Detective' season 3 renewal update: HBO yet to settle on approach for new season
It appears that the "True Detective" season 3 is in still in limbo over at HBO, but the renewal is still on the table, as revealed by the network's president of programming, Casey Bloys.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bloys gave an update on the status of "True Detective" season 3 as well as their other show, "The Night Of" and whether not it could push through.
"They're thinking about ideas, and when they find something, that's when I'll hear from them. I don't have anything to report on either of them other than they're thinking about what the best-next version is," Bloys said.
A few months back, Bloys said that "True Detective" is "not dead" and that the franchise is important to them, but they do not know the right take for it yet.
He also said that creator Nic Pizzolatto will not be able to write season 3 as he will be busy with other projects. Instead, the brilliant mind behind the anthology series will supervise a new writer to be brought in instead.
With regards to the identity of this new writer, HBO is reportedly on the lookout for one. The latest statement by Bloys suggested that the search might already be over.
However, it also hinted that "True Detective" season 3 will not arrive anytime soon as the folks in charge of putting the story together have not settled on one yet.
Just recently, Cary Fukunaga, who worked on the first season of the series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, said that he will not be part of "True Detective" season 3 should it still push through.
"I had only signed on to do the first season because I wanted to do a long format, wanted to experiment in that genre. But I don't see myself going back to 'True Detective' anytime soon," he told Times of India.
