'Uncharted' movie latest news: Mark Wahlberg not attached to the game's movie adaptation
It's been a long and winding journey for the much-awaited movie adaptation of the popular video game "Uncharted." And, it looks like the development of the film had taken another turn for the worse.
The film has been in development for many years, with several directors having been attached and subsequently removed from the production team, as well as actors from the casting lineup. However, through it all, one name has always remained connected to the lead role of Nathan Drake — Mark Wahlberg.
However, it seems Wahlberg himself has decided to finally and officially take himself out of the picture. In an exclusive interview with We Got This Covered this December to promote his new film "Patriots Day," Wahlberg confirmed that he is not connected to the production of the "Uncharted" film.
"As of now, no, I'm not attached," Wahlberg said.
As reported by Movie Web, "The Grey" director Joe Carnahan is currently working on the latest draft of the "Uncharted" movie screenplay, while Shawn Levy is attached to be the film's director. And even without the participation of Wahlberg, it looks like Levy is determined to move forward with a different set of actors in mind.
"I do have some people in mind and I've started some very secret, low-grade conversations and explorations of actors," Levy told io9 during an interview in November.
With Wahlberg out of the picture, there are already speculations on who could be the most suitable character to play the role of Nathan Drake. According to Game Rant, Nolan North, the actor who portrays the character in the "Uncharted" franchise seems like the most obvious choice for gaming fans. As a surprising move, Johnny Knoxville could also be invited into the fold, considering Drake's features were initially modeled after him.
Sony previously scheduled the "Uncharted" film for a premiere in June 2017, but given the setbacks encountered even before the movie has entered production, it will now likely debut sometime in 2018.
