'Uncharted' movie release date, news and updates: Director shoots down casting suggestions from fans

"Uncharted" is being developed as a live-action movie by Sony Pictures | PlayStation Store

After many years in development hell, the "Uncharted" movie is finally moving forward as management has signed on "Stranger Things" producer and director Shawn Levy. The production seems to be picking up steam and Levy has been discussing which actor will potentially land the role of the adventurer Nathan Drake.

In an interview with Collider, Levy talks about casting Drake in the movie, and he says, "The truth is, the conversations that are happening right now are with the studio and the producers talking about who feels right to us and to me."

He then goes on to talk about all the fan suggestions on Twitter about who should be cast as Nathan Drake. He has even joked that Twitter has saved him money on hiring a casting director.

Levy adds, "Because from Nikolaj [Coster-Waldau] to Oscar Isaac, [Nathan] Fillion, everyone that you would, [Chris] Pratt, Chris Evans, Chris Pine, I mean the suggestions are... It's every actor who is ruggedly handsome, which is to say every movie star, and who looks anything like the square-jawed, chiseled-featured Drake. I'm not actually going to base my casting on Twitter suggestions."

JoeCarnahan, who is writing the movie with Levy, has told Collider that he wants the original voice actor of Nathan Drake, Nolan North, to star in the movie, but he admits that the studio would be looking for a big-name star who can draw in the audience to theaters. "Again man, sheer economics," he said.

Levy is looking to be one busy man recently. Aside from working on one of the most anticipated video game movies of all time, he is also attached to produce and direct some episodes of the second season of "Stranger Things," which has become a huge pop-culture phenomenon as of late.

The movie starts shooting next year, but no official release date for "Uncharted" has been announced.
