'Veep' Season 4 Spoilers, Cast News: Hugh Laurie Joins Cast; Comedy Show Confirmed for 5th Season
HBO's "Veep" is back, at the same time as "Game of Thrones" and "Silicon Valley" as well as Netflix's "Daredevil."
On an edition of "Spoiler Alert," a panel of TV fanatics discussed the premiere episode which aired on April 12.
It was mentioned that "Veep" is probably one of the best pieces of comedy writing on TV today. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was hailed as a great actress, whose adlib scenes were described fantastic. It was noted that every scene is rehearsed with improvisation to make it funnier.
The story, broken down, is about an ineffective boss with an ineffective staff bumbling about trying to run the country. It is a bit formulaic, but very insightful and much more effective in bringing the point across than the similarly-themed "House of Cards."
In Season 4, Selina Meyer is President, and she is campaigning to remain President. She became President because the President had to step down to care for his ailing wife.
In Season 4 as well, Hugh Laurie is joining the cast! The man famously known as Dr. House, Laurie is excited about his role on the show.
Actor Timothy Simons tells E! News, "He's incredibly funny. Our show is run by Brits and they all understand he's super funny from when he was doing 'Fry and Laurie,' but I don't think audiences in the United States – they only really know him from 'House.' I think it'll be a great thing for people in the States to realize how funny he is, which is very funny."
"Veep" has been renewed for a fifth season, along with "Silicon Valley," "Game of Thrones," and "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver."
"Veep" is an Emmy-nominated series created by Armando Iannucci. Aside from Louis-Dreyfus and Simons, other cast members include Emmy nominee Anna Chlumski, Reid Scott, Matt Walsh, Sufe Bradshaw, Kevin Dunn, Gary Cole and Sam Richardson.
