'Walking Dead' Season 5 Spoilers, Plot News: Recap of Episode 15 - Michonne Knocks Rick Down
The second to the last episode of "The Walking Dead" Season 5 on Sunday at AMC, titled "Try," examined the growing tension between the two groups – Rick Grimes' and the Alexandria residents.
As expected, the news of Aiden's death put a damper on the trust that Deanna had for Rick's group, and the group's discovery of Pete's abusive behavior towards his wife Jessie and son Sam just heightened the tension in Alexandria.
The episode opened with the Monroes mourning Aiden's death by listening to a track in his "Run Mix" CD. Carol whipped up a tuna casserole and left it with a note of condolence on Deanna's doorstep. Deanna ignored the casserole, picked up the note and burned it. Sasha looked emotionally distraught while in the watchtower.
Outside, Aaron and Darryl were together on a recruitment run and at night they saw a campfire. The next day they tried to track the persons possibly living in the camp but found instead a dismembered walker, obviously done by whoever they were tracking. The next thing they found was a woman's body, naked, tied to a tree and left for walkers. A "W" is carved on her forehead. Darryl stabbed her head with a knife as she turned.
Glenn and Nicholas got to tell their versions of what happened at the warehouse where they attacked by walkers, leading to Aiden's death. In his version, Nicholas told Deanna that Rick's group was at fault for Aiden's death. This was obviously not the truth. Glenn told Rick the real version. Deanna ordered everyone living in Alexandria to surrender their guns until she finished her investigation.
Rick told Glenn that the Alexandrians' rules did not apply to them. Glenn replied that they were themselves Alexandrians now and that they should make their new living situation work.
One morning, Michonne looked at her constable uniform and Rosita reported that Tara was now stable. They talked about Sasha who had gone missing. Michonne and Rosita set out to look for her in the woods. They found her hunting down walkers, and after a while, they joined in the killing spree, seemingly exorcising their own demons. Michonne flashed back to the killings she had done in the past. For the first time, Michonne didn't bring her sword. Sasha said she was being haunted not only by Bob's and Tyrese's deaths, but also by Noah's, who she told wouldn't make it.
Carl followed Enid out again, and she discovered him following her. As they had to take cover together to flee some walkers, they got to know each other a bit, tentatively, both confirming that they were a little bit afraid of each other.
Glenn found Nicholas cleaning up a van and he blamed Nicholas again for the deaths. Glenn then told Nicholas that he would not be making any runs anymore. Nicholas asked, "Are you threatening me?" and Glenn answered, "No, I am saving you." Nicholas then went outside and unearthed the missing gun that Rick hid in the blender.
The confrontation everyone was waiting for – between Rick and Pete – happened towards the end of the episode. Before this, Rick and Deanna discussed what was happening. Deanna said she knew the situation in Pete's family and that she was hoping it would change, adding that Pete was their only surgeon. Deanna did not agree to Rick's plan to kill Pete, saying that exiling him would be more just.
Rick approached Jessie and told her he knew her situation with Pete and offered her his protection. She accepted. At that moment, Pete arrived and all hell broke loose. Rick and Pete ended up brawling on the street for everyone to see. Jessie tried to break them up, but Pete hit her. Carl tried to do the same and Rick shoved his son away. When Deanna tried to break up the fight, Rick pulled out a gun and started raving. "You still don't get it. None of you do! We know what needs to be done and we do it. We're the ones who live. You! You just sit and plan and hesitate. Your way of doing things is done!" he barked.
As Rick continued his tirade, Michonne came up from behind and knocked him out.
