'Walking Dead' Spoilers, Cast News: Spin-Off Could See A Character Crossover
AMC is set to capitalize on its hit series "The Walking Dead" with the launch of a spin-off, whose pilot episode is being scripted by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson.
Kirkman authored the books of the same title where the hit TV series is based on. He clarified that the series and its spin-off are two separate shows.
However, recent rumors indicated that a character from the spin-off would be featured on the sixth season of "The Walking Dead" for six episodes.
While there has been no official news of a crossover between the original series and the spin-off, details of it could emerge soon as "The Walking Dead" is due to return for the last portion of its fifth season in February of this year.
Some sites have hinted that the character could be Dr Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich), but this would be improbable as he died in the first season of the show.
Others have pointed out that Juan G. Pareja, who played Morales in the first season, could be the crossover character as he was briefly listed as part of the spin-off cast.
Meanwhile, Gale Anne Hurd, the executive producer on "The Walking Dead," recently stated to E! Online at the Producers Guild Awards, that the pilot for the spin-off had already begun shooting in Los Angeles. Hurd said she had been on the set every day "and it's another way to examine how the zombie apocalypse affects families."
The family-oriented theme of the spin-off is not a major departure from the original show, which is centered around Rick Grimes and his family.
Kirkman said earlier this month that the spin-off would be self-contained and happen sometime during the start of the zombie apocalypse. He also described how viewers could watch the spin-off even if they have never watched an episode of "The Walking Dead" and "get a really great, rich, fulfilling experience out of it."
As for the title of the spin-off, none has been announced yet. While it was initially thought to be "Cobalt," current indications are that it could be named "Fear the Walking Dead."
