'Wayward Pines' season 3 renewal: Plot already set for new season; Fox CEO believes renewal is happening
Although "Wayward Pines" season 3 is yet to be made official, a plot is already set for the new season of the hit series.
Blake Crouch, the author of the novels that inspired the "Wayward Pines" television series, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that a storyline is already in place.
"Just in terms of where the story goes, 'Wayward Pines' has always been about man's final hours," the bestselling author said, adding that this is what he and co-executive producer Night Shyamalan has been looking to tackle.
"One of things that we kept coming back to was this idea of man facing his own extinction. What does that look like? Mankind would be the first self-aware species to go extinct. The last saber-tooth tiger didn't know it was the last saber-tooth tiger, but the idea that man knows he is in the sunset of his species is fascinating material to play in," Crouch added.
The novelist said that "Wayward Pines" season 3 will explore what the final hours of mankind would look and feel like and how they will spend it.
A "Wayward Pines" season 3 renewal is yet to be given. However, Fox Television Group co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden revealed to TVLine that she "definitely thinks" there will be one.
She admitted that the second season was not as big as the first when it comes to the ratings and viewership, but she believes that it could do another season.
At the moment though, "Wayward Pines" season 3 is yet to be given the green light. Its performance is of course a major factor for the network in determining the fate of the show, whose first season allowed it to become the top scripted show of the summer.
Crouch said that some of the characters from the previous season will likely be included in the new season while new ones will also be added.
