The first trailer for the upcoming "Wonder Woman," the iconic superheroine's solo cinematic debut, was released during Comic-Con 2016 this weekend.

The long-awaited trailer premiered inside Hall H and was later released by Warner Bros.

In the trailer, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is first seen hovering over Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) as the latter lays unconscious on a pebbly shore. It is unclear if he washed up on the beach or Wonder Woman saved him from drowning. The pair's first exchange in the trailer seems to indicate that it is the superheroine's first encounter with a man.

"You're a man?" she asks Steve. "Yeah, do I not look line one?" he answers.

From there, viewers get glimpses of Diana's life on her island hometown, as well as of her family. The trailer then becomes steadily more action-packed, with the Amazonian princess taking on soldiers and tanks during the First World War, charging into battle on horseback, and fending off bullets and missiles with her shield and indestructible bracelets.

At the film's Comic-Con panel, Gadot spoke about filming "Wonder Woman," which expands her character's story after her supporting role in "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice."

"Many times, it felt like we got signs from the universe," she said. "It felt like we were just a vessel for a greater story that we need to share with everyone. It isn't about me as an actress or Patty [Jenkins] as a director. It felt like, now is the time."

Jenkins, who helmed the film, spoke about finally bringing the superheroine's story to the big screen after first being offered the chance to do so many years ago.

"When the moment came, I could not believe this moment has come," she said. "I feel so honored to do it. It's my life dream — I have always aspired to make something like this."

The film's first trailer was well-received at Comic-Con and has since been viewed more than 12 million times on YouTube.

The Independent said that what is most striking about the trailer is how "markedly different" it is from "Batman v. Superman."

"Wonder Woman" is set for release on June 2, 2017.
