'Wonder Woman' updates and news: Gal Gadot shares BTS photo of Diana vs Doomsday

So far, the DC Cinematic Universe is already three movies in but Warner Brothers still has not made anything that was universally loved by critics. August had fans hopeful for David Ayer's "Suicide Squad," but it was also met with harsh criticism. The next movie in line is the "Wonder Woman" solo movie starring Gal Gadot. The actress recently tweeted a behind-the-scenes look at Wonder Woman in action.

The image came from the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" set but nevertheless, it is something to make fans excited for the Wonder Woman movie. Despite the heavy criticisms of the film, Gal Gadot's portrayal of the Princess of Themyscira was something fans and critics considered as perfect casting.

The "Wonder Woman" solo movie will focus on the origins of Diana and how she comes to discover the new world outside the island of Amazonian women. In the movie, she runs into Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who is the first male human whom she comes in contact with. Steve acts as her guide and shows her the ways of his world.

Some fans expect that this movie will bring some light into the incredibly bleak setting of DC movies, but according to Gadot, the movie will still end up being pretty dark. That doesn't mean, however, that the movie won't have any humor.

One interesting element this movie has that other superhero movies do not have is its setting — the film is a period piece set with the backdrop of World War I. The only other superhero movie to do this in recent years is "Captain America: The First Avenger" which came out in 2011. The Marvel feature was set during World War II.

"Wonder Woman" will also be the first superhero movie helmed by a woman.

Granted, fans are excited for the "Wonder Woman" movie, which now bears the pressure of finally being a recent film in the DC Universe that fans will love.

"Wonder Woman" premieres on June 2, 2017.
