Gold earned in "World of Warcraft" can now be converted into credit on Battle.net, allowing players to buy virtual items for other Blizzard games, including "Hearthstone" and "Overwatch."

According to reports, Blizzard's new move is made possible thanks to Wow Tokens. Launched in 2015, Wow Tokens are mainly used as a way to exchange in-game currency for game time. Players buy Wow Tokens with gold and are then able to trade them in a particular marketplace. The concept is similar to the system used by "Eve Online" for a long time.

The company announced on Monday that players are now allowed to convert WoW Tokens into Battle.net credit. This means that any currency accumulated on "World of Warcraft" can be taken to a different Blizzard game. Players can also sell items they are no longer using and convert it into packs of cards in "Hearthstone" or make it loot boxes in "Overwatch."

In the U.S., each WoW Token earns $15 Battle.net Balance, but players must take note that the amount is region dependent. If purchased from Blizzard with real money, each Wow Token costs $20. Another way of getting it is via the in-game Auction House wherein players must pay in-game gold. Since its release, the price of WoW Tokens has steadily increased over the years. Reports say that the tokens sold for around 40,000g in Europe for a few months before dramatically climbing to around 80,000g in 2016. Upon the launch of the Legion expansion last fall, the price soared again to over 100,000g.

As promised at Blizzcon 2016, developers from Blizzard are working on a constant stream of patches and updates for "World of Warcraft."

"We need to keep the game vibrant with content, and the way we do that is by making sure, every couple months or so, we have something new to do," Senior Designer Paul Kubit said in an interview. "And that's the point of these .5 patches--it's to have, even if it's not the giant raid tier and outdoor farming zone, something new that you can play," he added.
