X-Men Apocalypse Plot News, Cast Rumors: Charles Xavier's Love Interest From 'First Class' Movie To Return
The C.I.A. agent who was the love interest of Professor Charles Xavier in the 2011 film "X-Men: First Class" certainly made a mark on audiences as she is poised to return to the superhero franchise.
Rose Byrne will return to the big screen to once again play the character of agent Moira MacTaggert. She will join the cast of "X-Men: Apocalypse," which is set for release next year, Entertainment Weekly said.
"She's a significant character in the movie," said "Apocalypse" writer Simon Kinberg. "We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them," Kinberg said.
Kinberg is keeping Moira's role in the new X-Men movie under wraps. He did say though that the movie will bring fulfilment to certain character developments that were left hanging in "X-MenL: First Class."
"This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric (Magneto, played by Michael Fassbender in the previous film), Raven (Mystique, played by Jennifer Lawrence), and Hank (Beast, played by Nicholas Hoult), who are essentially our main characters," he explained. "They're such young actors and young characters, so there's a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie."
Fans will also get to see Moira and Charles cultivating their relationship. "It's certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one," said Kinberg.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" takes place in the 1980s, two decades after the events of "X-Men: First Class."
"That's the era that I grew up in," said Kinberg. "The music, the fashion, the videogames: We really want to integrate all of that in the movie, and have it infuse the movie with a different vibe."
Kinberg added that they're looking at mutants who "would fit into the period."
The film will also feature younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm, to be played respectively by Sophie Turner (who plays Game Of Thrones' Sansa Stark), Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp.
