Producer/Director Bryan Singer made the announcement on his Twitter page on Monday. "Excited to welcome @oliviamunn as Betsy Braddock! #Psylocke #XmenApocalypse #XMEN," he wrote," linking to a photo of the actress he posted on his Instagram page.

"From G4 to XMEN you've been THE BEST road dogs. Thanks for staying on the ride with me. This one's for you," Munn wrote in her own tweet.

The cast of "X-Men: Apocalypse" includes mainstays James McAvoy as Dr. Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. The new cast members confirmed with Munn are Lana Condor as Jubilee, Sophie Turner as the young Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse.

In the comic books, Psylocke was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe for the British "Captain Britain" series, where she appeared in the 70s and 80s, before joining the X-Men in 1987's "Uncanny X-Men" No. 213. Since that time, she has been a mainstay both of the main team and spin-off series including "Exiles" and "X-Force."

Psylocke was originally presented as a precognitive in the pages of "Captain Britain" and then as a telepath. She eventually acquired the body, skills and elements of personality of a Japanese female ninja known as Kwannon.

Later, Psylocke managed to acquire the telekinesis of Jean Grey.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is due out on May 27, 2016 and is currently in production.
