'X-Men: Apocalypse' Release Date, Cast News: Game Of Thrones' Sophie Turner Cast As Young Jean Grey
"Game of Thrones" breakout Sophie Turner leads the new pack of young actors who will be joining the cast of "X-Men: Apocalypse," Director Bryan Singer has revealed.
In his official Twitter account, Singer said Turner will play Jean Grey, the red-haired uber-telepath who was previously portrayed by Famke Janssen.
Turner, the 18-year-old stunner who has been playing naive Sansa Stark in HBO's "Game of Thrones," is not the first actor to run away from white walkers in the north of Westeros.
She followed fellow Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, known as Tyrion Lannister, who first migrated to X-Men playing the evil military scientist Bolivar Trask in "Days of Future Past."
Actors Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp will also join the cast of "X-Men: Apocalypse" as the Cyclops and Storm.
Sheridan, an 18-year-old tough-faced teen actor who appeared in the "Tree of Life," will play the younger version of Cyclops, who was previously played by James Marsden.
Singer had been testing actors and actresses for the last couple of weeks, and sources indicated that Sheridan blew Singer away early on, Entertainment Weekly said.
Shipp, the 23-year old beauty who is probably best known for playing Aaliyah on "Lifetime" biopic last year, will be reintroduced as Storm, the weather-controlling mutant previously played by Halle Berry.
They join fellow franchise newbie Oscar Isaac, who's playing the titular bad guy in "X-Men: Apocalypse," along with returning cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence.
It's still unclear whether Turner, Sheridan, and Shipp will also play central figures, or if they will just be introduced as a kind of "new class" that will take over the franchise.
