'12 Monkeys' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Witness to put Cassie and Cole at odds, Olivia's true motive to be revealed
Syfy's time travel drama "12 Monkeys" recently wrapped up its sophomore season with a bang, and more new episodes can't come soon enough. The show has already been renewed for a third season and viewers will see what happens after the Witness was finally revealed.
The action-packed season 2 finale saw the future as Jennifer and the Daughters battle it out with the Army of the 12 Monkeys. They eventually realized that the Titan is the Witness' time machine, but it was too late. Amid the chaos, Cassie was taken and landed in 2163. She later on discovers that she is actually carrying the Witness in her womb.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Terry Matalas explained that the huge revelation will have a huge impact in the coming season. "The reason is that we knew the Witness had to have tremendous impact dramatically and emotionally for our main characters... It wasn't just that it would be shocking, it needed to be heartbreaking too and also really ask some serious questions of Cassie and Cole in season 3 — emotional, devastating questions about what to do next. It was something we knew for a long time."
Now that Cole is headed to the future to rescue Cassie, Matalas hints that it will not be an easy task. He is still unaware that the witness is his child but once he finds out, it might put him and Cassie at odds. "Like all things on 12 Monkeys, it will not be easy for him, it will not be easy for Cassie. He's going to have to go deeper down the rabbit hole in order to climb out," the EP said.
Olivia bringing Ramsey to his son was an unexpected move from her, but her real motives will be revealed in season 3. "It's an excellent question that you should be asking throughout season 3. Clearly she's not on Team Witness, but does that mean that she's exactly on Team Splinter, we'll have to see," Matalas added.
"12 Monkeys" season 3 is expected to premiere in the first half of 2017 on Syfy.
