'Arrow' season 5 spoilers, updates: Is there chance for 'Olicity' in upcoming season?

Stephen Amell says Oliver and Felicity would be mere team members in the upcoming season. | Arrow/Facebook

During the San Diego Comic-Con panel of "Arrow," Stephen Amell dished on the "Olicity's" future while further details about the upcoming installment were shared to the fans who were present at the convention.

One of the things discussed at the SDCC panel was Katie Cassidy's appearance in "Arrow" season 5 as Laurel Lance, and her subsequent appearance across all of DC's shows airing on The CW. Cassidy has signed a new deal that would see her as a series regular in "The Flash," "Legends of Tomorrow," and "Arrow."

According to Digital Spy, only John Barrowman and Wentworth Miller have similar deals, with both transitioning from "Arrow" and "The Flash," respectively, to "Legends of Tomorrow."

Meanwhile, Amell revealed that "Arrow" season 5 would finally put to rest the question concerning the promise Oliver made to Laurel before she died in season 4.

"It's something that's going to have a lasting impact not just in our season premiere, but over the next couple seasons of the show," TV Line quoted the actor as saying. "It's going to be critical to whatever the legacy of our show is."

In related news, Amell dished on what fans could expect between his character and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). It would be recalled that some fans blamed Oliver and Felicity's relationship for the decline in quality of the show. At the SDCC, Amell took time to update the fans on "Olicity."

"Oliver's most important relationship in the entire show is his relationship with Star City, and his objective to make it better than what it was and fulfill what his father asked him to do. So Oliver and Felicity are very much team members at this point," he said, according to Comicbook.com.

So it looks like those who ship Oliver and Felicity would have to make do with them being mere team members when the upcoming season starts airing. Whether wedding bells would ring for them in season 5 or not remains to be seen.

"Arrow" season 5 will return on Oct. 5 on The CW. In the meantime, check out the video below.
