'Billions' season 2 news, cast update: Premiere date confirmed, 'Zoo' actor James Wolk to guest star as tech mogul

White-collar crime continues when "Billions" returns for its sophomore season early next year, along with a "Zoo" star who recently landed a guest role in the hit Showtime drama.

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Showtime representatives announced that the crime drama's second season will premiere on Feb. 19, 2017. Further details on the plot are still under wraps but production in New York is ongoing.

Starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis, "Billions" chronicles the growing tension between hard-hitting U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) and billionaire hedge fund king Bobby "Axe" Axelrod (Lewis). Season 2 will feature the two lead characters go head-to-head as they fight for control and adapt to the changing environment. Maggie Siff plays the role of Wendy Rhoades, Chuck's former wife who plays a huge part in the hedge fund world. Malin Akerman stars as Lara Axelrod, Axe' street-smart and faithful wife.Toby Leonard Moore, David Costabile, and Condola Rashad also star.

James Wolk is the latest addition to the cast and he will play the role of an ambitious young tech mogul named Craig Heidecker. Wolk headlines CBS' most-watched scripted drama "Zoo" which is currently airing its second season with a finale scheduled for Sept. 6.

In a post-finale interview, showrunner David Levien weighed in on how they conceptualized the successful first season and the direction season 2 will take. "Our idea of Season 1 was to use all of our good ideas," he told Decider. "It's the Matt Weiner idea of using every good idea you have and not saving anything. For the foreseeable future, everything in our heads is that these guys are our show."

When asked about how much changes viewers will see next season, Levien simply said: "We love these characters, and we are fascinated by this world."
