"Chicago P.D." will feature a wide array of drama for most of the characters when the hit spin-off series returns for its fourth season later this month.

After tying the knot last season, Platt (Amy Morton) will find herself in an unexpected confrontation which puts her life on the line. In an interview, executive Matt Olmstead teased that an episode early in the season will feature Platt in a dangerous situation where she nearly died. "She's jumped and attacked and beaten within an inch of her life," he said. "It's a real tour de force episode for [portrayer] Amy Morton."

On the lighter side, the series will feature yet another "Chicago" crossover romance when Antonio (Jon Seda) and "Chicago Fire" character Sylvie enters in a relationship. "He's reluctant [to start a relationship]—there's no way it should happen—but she's a bit more like, 'Why not?'" Olmstead told TV Line. Burgess (Marina Squerciati) will also meet her new partner Julie Tay for the first time, portrayed by "Quantico" star Li Jun Li. Coming from "the worst job in the city" (writing parking tickets), she will be the latest addition in the department after her relationship with a police commander (Ian Bedford) turns sour.

Entertainment Weekly recently gave a first look at Li's character in a series of photos from the upcoming season 4. Platt will be one of the people who helps Tay and gets her assigned to District 21. However, she winds up "locking horns with this commander, who is the one that broke the brick on Tay because of spurned advances," according to Olmstead. "Platt takes a big risk in saving this girl's career and also going toe-to-toe with this guy."

Catch the season 4 premiere of "Chicago P.D." on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
