'Chicago P.D.' season 4 spoilers, plot news: Showrunner hints at plans for 'Linstead'; Burgess to stay away from the dating scene?

The season 3 finale of "Chicago P.D." may have finally tied some loose ends before it wrapped up, but there are still a lot of questions that need to be resolved once the show returns for its fourth season.

If one thing is for certain, one of District 21's own will not be coming back for season 4. Due to his injuries, Roman (Brian Geraghty) decided to leave the department for good and reside in San Diego. He asked Burgess (Marina Squerciati) to ride off into the sunset with him, but his partner opted to stay and continue her work as an officer.

Roman's departure will definitely not be easy for Burgess, and showrunner Matt Olmstead hints at the possibility of the female officer staying away from the dating scene for a while. "We'll see, we're still just kicking around ideas for next season but there's certainly a pitch for a vow of celibacy for her," the EP said. "In that she was engaged to a guy upstairs, she was romantic with the guy that she was working with, both of those kind of went sideways on her ..."

In the entire "Chicago" franchise, Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) may be one of the most consistent couples. Olmstead also mentioned exploring the couple's romance further in season 4, saying that they plan to take the pairing to "the next step and dramatize that next step."

"He's looking to maybe buy a condo as opposed to pissing his money away on rent," Olmstead explained. "He's vocalizing these ideas to Lindsay and she's knocking him down left and right: 'You don't want that, you don't want this one. [It's] leaning towards why is she resistant to him getting another place? Does she actually want to be with him, move in with him, have him move in with her? That's something we're going to play next season."

Will the show bring in new faces in the department? Find out when "Chicago P.D." returns for its fourth season this Fall on NBC.
