'Clash Royale' news: Draft Challenge goes live; tips and tricks for winning revealed

"Clash Royale" is bringing another challenge to the game starting today, Jan. 20.

As announced by Supercell on the game's official website, the newest challenge is called the "Draft Challenge." It is essentially the same as the previous one that was released, which is the "Crown Duel Challenge." Between Jan. 19 until 23, gamers can engage in a Friendly Battle with each other. Between Jan. 20 and 23, players can join the "Classic Draft Challenge" for 10 gems or the "Grand Draft Challenge" for 100 gems.

The new name, according to Touch Arcade, is more appropriate because what gamers essentially do in the game is to draft cards. Players pick one out of two random cards until they have four cards, and the cards that don't get selected go to their opponent's deck.

The catch is that the opponent gets to do the same thing. Hence, gamers end up with the four cards that they have selected for themselves and the four cards chosen for them by their opponent. This also means that players already know four of the eight cards possessed by their opponent.

iDigitalTimes recently put together a quick overview of the new challenge, which includes information about how players can participate and how they can win.

In the "Classic Draft Challenge," players can win up to 200 gold coins and 100 cards, while the "Grand Draft Challenge" offers a top prize of 22,000 gold coins and 1,100 cards. Unlike most new challenges featured by Supercell, gamers are expected to pay every time they join a "Draft Challenge."

To win, gamers are advised to mind their elixir and to choose a range of cards. Players should make sure to pick a diverse set of cards that doesn't have a high elixir cost. Cards must also be selected according to whether or not they can enhance each other. Players should pick a group that can work well together for both offense and defense.

Some of the best cards players can pick include Graveyard, Archers, Zap, The Log, Tornado, Skeleton Army, Hog, Inferno Tower, Miner, Lavahound, Mega Minion, Ice Golem, and Elite Barbarians.

Cards that players should avoid or pass on to their opponent include Sparky, Inferno Dragon, Bomber, Skeletons, Mortar, Xbow, and Goblin Hut.

In the end, the best way to properly prepare for a "Draft Challenge" is to play a few rounds against fellow clan members so that they could have a good grasp at the game.
