'Descendants of the Sun' movie adaptation news; Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo couple to reunite?

The hit Korean drama series "Descendants of the Sun" is set for a movie adaptation, and Chinese director Zhang Yi-bai is said to be overseeing the project.

According to Asia Times, the director of the movie adaptation shared that he has been feeling a lot of pressure since he wants to ensure that the production value of his movie surpasses that of the series.

"I feel big pressure since the TV drama series 'Descendants of the Sun' is already a big hit with very charming male and female protagonists," Zhang said during a recent press conference in Beijing, the outlet noted. "I think the production of a film should not only take advantage of the powerful popularity of the television series but also see some improvement."

The series, which debuted in February, has long but ended, but its popularity has never been stronger. The lead couple of the show, played by Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, has become such a wonder for the series' fans that the actors playing them have become major superstars in South Korea. Fans generally see the two as adorable together and even want the actors to start dating in real life as well.

Fans want the two Songs to reprise their roles in the movie because they believe that it would be extremely difficult to find a replacement for both of them. A big market for the movie would be its already existing fan base of millions of viewers, so the filmmakers could take a hint from that and cast the couple for the movie.

The Song-Song couple, however, are reportedly busy with their own projects, with Joong-ki currently filming the movie "Battleship Island." Thus, it might seem unlikely for the Korean superstars to reunite for the movie adaptation. There is also speculation that the "DOTS" movie would choose to cast Chinese actors instead since the production is Chinese.

The "Descendants of the Sun" movie adaptation is currently in a state of pre-production, so fans can expect a schedule for the movie to hit next year. In the meantime, a second season of "Descendants of the Sun" in South Korea is said to be an option for KBS2, which released the original TV series.
