'Devious Maids' season 4 finale recap: Shocking twist revealed Peri's killer; Will series see 5th season?

Is "Devious Maids" coming back for a fifth season? | Lifetime

The big reveal in the "Devious Maids" season 4 finale probably didn't prepare viewers, and perhaps even Rosie, as to the true identity of Peri Westmore's killer.

Much of season 4's arc focused on the mystery surrounding the murder of Peri (Mariana Klaveno), who was found with a trophy sticking out of her neck in episode 2. Rosie (Dania Ramirez) made it her mission to find out who killed Peri, as she was convinced her husband Spence (Grant Show) was wrongly accused of it.

The shocking season 4 finale titled "Grime and Punishment" was marked with an unexpected twist. The past episodes seemed to imply that Rosie was hot on the trail of the killer, and while she was able to put two and two together, the killer ended up being a least likely suspect.

Rosie was with her friends when she theorized that Peri's murderer could be the same man who drugged and raped the latter years ago, and that's when Hollywood executive Hugh Metzer's (Sam McMurray) name cropped up. The friends confront Hugh, who said Peri never told on him, but The Circle knew the truth and has been blackmailing him for what he did to Peri.

The only time Peri decided to tell on Hugh was when she caught him attempting to rape another woman at Peri's party, the same night she was found murdered. Rosie surmised that Peri was killed to protect Hugh's secrets, but the big question mark was who did it.

Just before Hugh suffers a heart attack, he utters "Oh my God. She wouldn't." This made Rosie snoop around some more until she figured out Hugh must have been referring to his daughter. It was discovered that Gail (Julie Claire), the one Adrian (Tom Irwin) recently proposed to, was Hugh's daughter and when Rosie confronted Gail, she showed no remorse for killing Peri.

She even called Peri's murder "a public service" and had the gall to say no one would believe a "dumb maid" over her, but that's when Rosie revealed that she one-upped Gail – she was wired, so the authorities heard Gail's confession loud and clear.

The final moments of the series bared a one-year time jump to the day of Marisol's wedding to Peter (James Denton). However, just as her friends were looking for the bride-to-be, they found an empty bridal suite with a broken window covered in blood.

The cliffhanger of an ending could mean that there would be a fifth season for "Devious Maids," but it hasn't been confirmed yet. Nevertheless, Bustle pointed out that Lifetime didn't announce the renewal of "Devious Maids" season 4 until a month after the season 3 finale. Hence, there's a possibility that an official announcement would be made next month.

In the meantime, keep checking back for updates and news about "Devious Maids" season 5.
