A lot of fans were delighted with the news that the detective drama series of CBS, "Elementary," has been confirmed to return for a fifth season this year. This would mean that the viewers will once again see John Noble and Natalie Dormer, among many other stars next season as the show further explores the origins of the popular fictional British detective, Sherlock Holmes. However, there is also a bit of a sad news as Noble, who plays the protagonist Morland Holmes, will no longer appear as a series regular in Season 5.

The fourth season of "Elementary" has recently wrapped up and it featured a lot of interesting ups and downs in the life of Morland Holmes and his son, Sherlock. In spite of all the challenges that the Holmes family faced this season, the beautiful father and son relationship of Morland and Sherlock was properly exhibited this season. In order to protect his son from the clutches of Jaime Moriarty's wretched organization, Morland devised a plan to take over the underground group instead. That way, the enemies will have less power to pose a threat to his family, especially to his son.

The finale episode of "Elementary" Season 4 ended up without any foreseen troubles. Although the fans may be rejoicing with the happy ending, there is a sad news coming their way as Morland Holmes will appear less next season. Noble will no longer be a series regular.

In an interview with TV Line, "Elementary" Creator and Executive Producer Robert Doherty confirmed that Noble will no longer be a part of the regular cast in Season 5 as they have already told most of his character's story in Season 4.

"This was always the plan that we would have John aboard for Season 4. We wanted Morland - and, by extension, John - to help us define Season 4, and he absolutely did that. I feel like we told the one long story we wanted to, but we [also] got to tell a lot of smaller stories about Sherlock and his father, and then Morland trying to develop a relationship with Joan. We feel like we did everything we set out to do," Doherty said.

However, the fans will still see Morland Holmes again at some point next season as Doherty revealed that they have "left the door very open" for the actor next season."
