The upcoming film "The Case for Christ," adapted from ex-atheist Lee Strobel's best-selling book of the same name, debuts on the big screen in spring 2017.

The movie chronicles Strobel's attempt to disprove Christianity by using his skills as an award-winning investigative journalist. However, his discoveries led him to become a firm believer in Christ, The Christian Post reported.

"The film gives the dramatic story behind the story of a man with personal animosity for Christianity who used journalistic and legal techniques to evaluate its claims. 'The Case for Christ' takes audiences on an exciting journey from skepticism to belief," Strobel said in a statement.

The cast of the film includes Mike Vogel, Erika Christensen, Faye Dunaway, Robert Foster, L. Scott Caldwell and Frankie Faison. The movie is directed by Jonathan M. Gunn and written by Brian Bird based on Strobel's book.

Strobel won several awards in 1980 for his work as an investigative journalist and has been promoted to legal affairs editor of the Chicago Tribune. When his wife, Leslie, became a Christian, he started his investigation to prove that Christ's resurrection did not happen.

In an earlier interview with The Christian Post, he revealed that his wife's conversion almost led to their divorce. He said that his wife's journey to Christianity started when she became friends with their neighbor.

"It wasn't until my wife met a woman in the same condominium building who was a Christian and they became friends that she ultimately came to faith in Christ and told me that she had become a Christian, which my initial reaction was to divorce her," he said.

In his investigation to disprove Christianity, Strobel interviewed more than 12 scholars, biblical theologians and experts. He soon found out that the foundations of Christianity is solid.

Strobel became a Christian decades ago and he said that his marriage with Leslie is stronger than ever. He wants to share the evidence of Christianity and the love of God to more people. He believes that the film would capture the attention of people who might not be interested in reading his book.
