GoPro Hero 5 release date and specs rumors: Camera going touchscreen? Hero 4 successor expected to have slimmer build, GPS too

GoPro Hero 5, despite its nearing launch, remains shrouded in mystery. However, a short clip that popped up on Vimeo and Reddit hints of some exciting features.

The video, which only ran for nine seconds, featured the back of the camera, which was used to show how to connect the supposed GoPro Hero 5 to a smartphone.

Although the instruction video is short, there are several things that can be taken away from it. According to The Verge, it appeared as though the GoPro Hero 5 in the video was touchscreen.

This feature may not be new to the GoPro cameras, but it hints that the company is opting to make touchscreens a standard for its products.

The site pointed out that this could also mean that the GoPro flagship will no longer feature the slot that allows for extra batteries and accessories such as an LCD screen.

With the GoPro Hero 5 going touchscreen, the interface on the camera appears to have been simplified as well as it looked like it was tailored for easier touchscreen performance and usage.

On the subject of design, The Verge believes that sports camera's corners, at least looking at them from the back, are rounded unlike the ones on its predecessors, which were more rectangular.

On the other hand, Engadget pointed out that the GoPro Hero 5 could feature Global Positioning System (GPS), which could be of great use on tracking its performance and geolocation.

The new GoPro Hero camera is also expected to come with a lighter and a slimmer body. With regards to more features, the leaked clip references something called "GoPro Sniper."

There's no word as to what it is, but with GoPro Hero 5 believed to be available in the months that will follow, more information about this feature and the camera itself should be revealed.
