The new version of the classic "Hawaii Five-0" series just resurrected Jack Lord who portrayed detective Steve McGarrett in the original series. The actor passed away in 1998 but was brought back to life through CGI.

The original series, which was also from CBS, ran from 1968 to 1980. Lord portrayed McGarrett for a total of twelve seasons.

In the seventh season of the new series, the late actor guest starred in the show as a retired cop who offered words of advice to the current Steve McGarrett, who is portrayed by Alex O'Loughlin. Entertainment Weekly said the scene took years of planning and creating. The "Hawaii Five-0" creators paid tribute to the late actor by naming the character after him, Jack Lord.

"I originally conceived of the idea — a scene between McGarrett and Jack Lord — to be the final scene in the series, but realized last year that the end was nowhere near and if I wanted to be the first to do something like this, I better commit soon," executive producer Peter M. Lenkov told EW. "Thankfully, the conversation between the two men fit perfectly with the theme of season 7," he added.

In the upcoming season of the show, the series will be exploring the legacy of the team. Family will be an important element in this season.

Lenkov revealed that McGarrett will start to contemplate about his life and the choices he has made so far. His partner, Danny (Scott Caan), will be focused on nurturing his relationship with his children. Furthermore, Kono (Grace Park) will be thinking about settling down and making a family of her own with Adam (Ian Anthony Dale). Meanwhile, Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) might be adopting his niece.

Viewers can catch the seventh season of "Hawaii Five-0" on Fridays at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
