'Injustice 2' release date, latest news: New gameplay trailer introduces Black Canary as playable character

NetherRealm Studios has announced another confirmed playable character for the upcoming video game "Injustice 2."

A gameplay trailer, which premiered on IGN, featured Black Canary, confirming her inclusion in the character roster of the "Injustice" video game sequel. The footage teases Dinah Laurel Lance and her intense exhibition match with Blue Beetle. In the fight, Black Canary is equipped with her powerful sonic scream as well as her martial art skills and acrobatic finesse.

As reported by GameRant, Black Canary's role in the storyline of "Injustice 2" does not seem as crucial as that of other characters like Supergirl. The trailer about the character offers only a glimpse of the role she may play. One scene shows Black Canary fighting with Blue Beetle, who aims to defeat her in order to join the ranks of Batman's team.

Black Canary is not the only new DC character added in "Injustice 2." NetherRealm also recently updated its website, confirming that previously teased characters like Poison Ivy, Bane, and Brainiac are all playable. A gameplay reveal for the DC character Robin was also previously released by the studio.

Earlier on, other DC characters have already been confirmed to be playable in "Injustice 2." These include Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Supergirl, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Gorilla Grodd, and Atrocitus.

"Injustice 2" is a continuation of the storyline of its predecessor, "Injustice: Gods Among Us." After bringing down the regime of Superman, Batman and his team try to piece society back together. At the same time, they must fight against those who still support Superman and wants to see the restoration of his tyrannical rule.

As previously announced, a multiplayer beta version of the game was opened. However, as of this writing, registration for the multiplayer beta is now closed.

"Injustice 2" is scheduled to be launched on May 16 for the Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One.
