The fourth iPad Mini was launched on Sept. 15, 2015. This is why Apple junkies were expecting the company to announce the details of the latest iPad Mini during the iPhone 7 reveal. However, the month is about to end and Apple has still kept the latest device a secret.

So far, Apple has remained mum on a number of its devices, including the iPad Mini. But there have been all sorts of speculations surrounding the upcoming fifth installment. Sources said that the latest device will have similar upgrades as the latest iPhone 7.

According to reports, Apple will ditch the 3.5-millimeter headphone jack and install the lightning port for the iPad Mini 5. The brand new port will reportedly be used for charging and for the latest ear pods.

The latest device could have the Apple A9 processor and 2 GB of RAM. Furthermore, reports said that Apple will remove the 16 GB internal storage option. The device will have at least 32 GB of internal storage.

Like the latest iPhone, rumor has it that the upcoming iPad Mini will have a waterproof and dust resistant chassis. Apple is also expected to find a smaller battery component to reduce the size of the unit.

The unit will reportedly have a 5142 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is less powerful than the previous installments. However, with the new processor, the device's battery life will not be affected by the change.

If the company decides to abandon the 16 GB variant of the device, the 32 GB unit could cost $450. Meanwhile, the 64 GB and 128 GB devices might range from $500 to $600.

Apple junkies are expecting the device to launch in May 2017. However, since Apple still hasn't confirmed the latest reports, fans should treat the updates as speculation until proven otherwise.
