iPad Pro 2 release date, specs rumors: Device to introduce A10X chipset and 10.5-inch iPad

Apple has yet to announce the latest installment of its iPad Pro line. However, reports say the upcoming model will introduce a brand new chipset and size variant. The device will be launched next year, along with the upcoming iPad mini.

The iPad Pro 2 will reportedly be powered by an A10X SoC chipset, which will eventually be the standard processor for Pro tablets after its introduction. The chipset scored 4,236 on Apple's single-core test for the device. For the multi-core examination, the A10x reportedly got a grade of 6,588.

The recent results reveal that the A10X is more powerful than the A10 Fusion. The latter only scored 3,490 on the single-core test. Meanwhile, it only landed a 5,580 on the multi-core performance test.

The A10X that will be implemented in the iPad Pro 2 tablet will be a more developed version of the chipsets used to power the latest iPhone unit.

Rumor has it that the new Pro model will come in three size variants. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will still develop a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but the upcoming model will be an updated version of the preceding units. A 10.5-inch iPad will be produced for the commercial and education markets, reports say. Furthermore, the 9.7-inch variant will be kept as a low-cost alternative for consumers.

Though Apple has yet to announce the launch date for the alleged device, reports suggest that it will premiere along with the iPad mini line, like it usually does. Recently, the tech giant has been launching its premium devices together with lower-end alternatives — the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air, and the Mac Pro and the iMac. Hence, many believe that the iPad Pro 2 could be launched with the upcoming iPad mini next year.

On the other hand, Apple junkies are losing hope for the iPad Air tablets. Rumor has it that the tech giant will be phasing out this particular line of tablets.
