"Jane the Virgin" wrapped up its third season with an awful cliffhanger, and fans can't wait to see what happens to Michael after the dramatic shooting in the finale.

Jane and Michael's emotional exchange of vows was one of the highlights of the last episode, and the newlyweds were one step closer to consummating their marriage for the first time. However, an unexpected twist happens and Michael got shot in the chest by his partner who turned out to be drug lord Sin Rostro in disguise. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman weighed in on the cliffhanger, saying: "Regardless of if Michael lives or if Michael dies, it's what happens after?" she explained. "After something so traumatic, can you still hold on to your sense of magic a little bit? It's continuing that move from fantasy to reality."

Urman previously confirmed that Jane (Gina Rodriguez) will be losing her virginity in the upcoming season. With Michael's life hanging in the balance, it remains to be seen if he will be the one to get Jane out of her virginity oath. Rumor has it that if Michael will not survive his injuries, Jane might get back together with Rafael, the father of her first child.

The first two seasons tackled themes including pregnancy and motherhood, but this time, the story will shed light on the topic of "growing up." The EP admits that they have yet to plan what happens when Jane loses her virginity, but they are currently working on some ideas. "There's a lot of pressure at that moment and I haven't drilled down—so to speak—on what will happen. I have a lot of different ideas on what that will be, and how big to make it, and how many complications and so forth, so I'm excited about that, but also nervous because I want to execute it well," she said.

Will Jane and Michael eventually have their happily ever after? Catch the season 3 premiere of "Jane the Virgin" which is scheduled to air on Oct. 17, Monday on The CW.
