Is Michael (Brett Dier) alive or dead? This is the question probably still on the minds of "Jane the Virgin" fans months after the season 2 finale was shown. Now that season 3 is just a couple of months away, fans are excited to know the answer.

Jane (Gina Rodriguez) was the picture of a beaming bride for most of season 2's finale episode but was reduced to tears when her new husband Michael was shot. The unexpected twist caused an uproar among fans, more so since the newly married couple didn't even have a chance to consummate their marriage. Now, they want to know if Michael survived and if Jane can still have a shot at her happily ever after.

Rodriguez recently spoke with Wetpaint, and she said that Michael is still pretty much a part of the show, although she can't say in which capacity he'll be back.

"I think you're going to see Michael," she said, adding, "I don't know if he's alive or dead but you're going to see him."

A recent tweet from the writers of "Jane the Virgin" confirmed as much. They posted a photo of the cast's first table read and Dier was there along with cast members Justin Baldoni, Jaime Camil, Ivonne Coll, and Yael Grobglas. It remains to be seen if Dier's character survives in season 3 or if he's only shown as a ghostly apparition.

The waiting game won't be too long, though, as Jennie Snyder Urman — the show's executive producer — said Michael's fate would be revealed early on in season 3 of "Jane the Virgin." Urman had previously teased that Jane would finally lose her virginity somewhere along season 3. Will she finally do the deed with Michael?

Entertainment Weekly shared that filming for season 3 has begun, and there wasn't any mourning on Dier's first day back on the set. Hence, there's a big possibility that the character hasn't been written off the script. Still, that's something to look forward to when the show returns this October.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that one of the things "Jane the Virgin" season 3 would highlight is the conflict between Jane and her new mother-in-law (Molly Hagan). According to TV Guide, the two would butt heads rather than sort out their issues as they go through the same struggles concerning Michael's fate.

As it is, Michael's mother doesn't approve of Jane, especially after she called off their first engagement. The groom's family wasn't even present for their wedding. So another thing worth anticipating in the upcoming season is the possible reconciliation between Jane and her mother-in-law.

"Jane the Virgin" season 3 will premiere on Monday, Oct. 17, at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
