'Longmire' season 5 latest news: Upcoming season last for the series? Star dishes on true state of the show

Will romance between Walt (Robert Taylor) and Vic (Katee Sackhoff) brew in "Longmire" season 5? | AETV

Production has been incessant for "Longmire" season 5, and with the rate things are going, it looks like the Netflix drama could see a possible Fall premiere. Nevertheless, the rumor mill has spawned talks that the upcoming season would be the series' swan song.

Fans are hoping reports claiming that the Netflix crime drama is winding up after five seasons are just rumors. After all, "Longmire" has already earned a previous cancellation when it still aired on A&E despite high ratings simply because the target audience was wrong.

Netflix picked up the series for its fourth season, this time targeting an older audience base, and it looked to be hitting the mark. That's why fans were concerned about the rumors of an impending cancellation.

However, Lou Diamond Phillips, who plays Henry Standing Bear in the series, took to Twitter to clear up the "misunderstanding" regarding "Longmire" fate. Check out his reply to a fan below:

Phillips made it clear that the show isn't ending after season 5 primarily because it is doing well. Besides, Netflix itself hasn't released any official word concerning the show's cancellation. Actually, the cast and crew of the series are expected to attend the Fifth Longmire Days, which will be held on July 8-10. Even Craig Johnson, author of the book series on which the show was based, will be attending.

Meanwhile, life goes on for the production team of "Longmire" season 5, and proof of this is the continuous updates that the cast members post on their social network accounts. In particular, Katee Sackhoff, who plays Vic Moretti on the show, regularly posts pictures from the location shoots on her Twitter page.

There are also speculations that the upcoming season would finally see Vic and Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) ending up together in the series even though some fans thing the two are better off as friends.

Earlier in June, TJ Scott, director of the series, posted a picture of the script for "Longmire" season 5's seventh episode. The title of the episode, "From This Day Forward," seemed to hint at a wedding, and fans readily surmised it could be Walt and Vic's.

The official premiere date for "Longmire" season 5 is yet to be announced, but if things go according to plan, then it could drop in by September.
