Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman is all set to reprise his role in "Madam Secretary" when the hit CBS drama returns this Fall for its much-anticipated third season.

Aside from being the executive producer for the program, Freeman will reprise his role as the stern Chief Justice Wilbourne in the upcoming season 3 opener. He will also direct the said episode, similar to what he did when he appeared in the season 2 premiere last year according to Entertainment Weekly.

In a previous interview with USA Today, Freeman mentioned that he always trusts his actors every time he directs. "You don't hire them to tell them how this character is supposed to be played. You hire them to do it themselves," he explained. "So, stay out of the way."

Lead star Téa Leoni expressed admiration for Freeman's acting experience and directing style, saying, "What's riveting is that he can achieve a complete tonal change in performance with the least amount of direction. That's an art."

Plot details for the third season are still under wraps, but spoiler reports speculate that Elizabeth (Leoni) will face a major life problem as she balances personal and career matters. Rumor has it that Elizabeth and Henry are headed for divorce because of conflicts related to their work. As fans know, the power couple often butted heads when it came to work-related issues but they always manage to make up at the end of every argument.

Elizabeth will eventually have to face President Dalton (Keith Carradine) and give him an answer after he continuously pressured her to be his running mate for the presidential elections. If she takes his offer, Elizabeth will replace Mark Delgado (Alex Fernandez) on Dalton's ticket.

"Madam Secretary" season 3 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. EST on CBS. The series will air between "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "Elementary," taking over the timeslot left by "The Good Wife."
