"Marco Polo" season 3 remains unconfirmed but various sources report that the next chapter of the Netflix drama could find Hundred Eyes (Tom Wu) becoming the new protagonist in the wake of Kublai Khan's (Benedict Wong) death.

These speculations are based on assumptions that Wong might not return for the series as he will be pursuing bigger roles after his stint as Wong in this year's highly successful "Doctor Strange." Wong's commitment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe film reportedly gave rise to production delays in the second season of "Marco Polo." And now that Wong's film career is taking off, there are reports that he will exit the Netflix series and that his character will meet a "terrifying death."

Alternatively, GameNGuide suggests that Wong is not walking out of "Marco Polo" but could be renegotiating his contract to get a higher salary.

But should the "Doctor Strange" actor leave the series, iTechPost reports that Hundred Eyes, a blind Taoist monk enslaved to the Khan, will rise to become the main focus of "Marco Polo" season 3. In the previous season, a special episode featured the origin and back story of Hundred Eyes. It revealed that the character's skills and wisdom qualify him to become a main player in "Marco Polo" season 3.

Apart from Wu's Hundred Eyes, another character that could rise to the top after Kublai Khan's rumored death is Empress Chabi, played by Joan Chen. Chabi is an unofficial but valued advisor of the Khan and is thus also capable of taking a position of power.

Meanwhile, Leonard Wu, who played Orus in the second season of "Marco Polo," is rumored to be getting his own spinoff. Orus was the son of Kaidu (Rick Yune). He hoped to be named the heir over his sister Khutulun (Claudia Kim) but was killed in a battle with Khan's army.

Netflix has yet to announce a season 3 for "Marco Polo."
