'Narcos' season 2 news 2016: Netflix needs to pay $1 billion to play the next season of 'Narcos'

Roberto Escobar, the brother of the late Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, has been asking Netflix to show him the second season of "Narcos" for him to see if there are any historical discrepancies in the portrayal of his brother. He had been asking the streaming service "in a friendly manner" for months, but seeing that he has not received any replies, he is ready to sue, and now he's asking for $1 billion.

Yahoo! Finance reports that Escobar has demanded $1 billion from Netflix for content rights. Escobar claimed to have "successor-in-interest rights" to the Escobar family. In his letter to Netflix, he stated that the rights of the Escobar family and Pablo's life are registered under a company called Escobar Inc. He asked for a fair share of profits that Netflix earns from the show, but Netflix has not made any attempts to reply to Escobar during the months of his petitioning.

In an interview with Newsweek, Escobar said, "If they decline my offer we have attorneys ready to proceed with necessary actions." He also warned that that there will be no more "Narcos" if Netflix doesn't talk to him.

"You have to pay to play, and they are playing me without paying. I am not a monkey in a circus, I don't work for pennies," he added.

"Narcos" is a hit Netflix series about Colombian drug-lord Pabo Escobar, and the attempts of the CIA to stop his operation back in the '80s. The show has proven to be a success among critics, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the second season. The series stars Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar, and Pedro Pascal and Boyd Holbrook as Javier Pena and Steve Murphy respectively, the CIA agents assigned to take Escobar down.

Whether Escobar's demands will delay "Narcos" season 2 premiere is yet to be known, but the much-anticipated installment is slated to come out on Sept. 2.
