'Narcos' season 2 release date, spoilers 2016: Netflix series set to premiere August 2016, Los Pepes vigilantes to have a role in Pablo Escobar's murder?
Critically-acclaimed Netflix drama series "Narcos" will soon return to TV screens for its much-awaited sophomore run, and the series will finally see the death of its lead character Pablo Escobar.
Since it was previously confirmed that the season 2 plot will indeed feature the Colombian drug kingpin's demise, fans may be wondering how he will be killed in the show. As written in history, Escobar died after being shot by the Colombian National Police. On the other hand, there have been reports stating that people who witnessed the druglord's murder claim that it was a vigilante group who killed Escobar and not the police.
Los Pepes (short for Los Perseguidos por Pablo Escobar) is a group of vigilantes rumored to have really killed Escobar. The group's name translates to "people persecuted by Pablo Escobar," and they are all enemies of Escobar who are said to have shot him for revenge. As of now, it remains to be seen if the Los Pepes will have a role in the show's storyline.
Escobar's portrayer Wagner Moura has been the face of the show since it first aired back in August 2015. The execs have yet to confirm if the show will have a new lead or an ensemble cast, but it will definitely continue on the plot involving the drug trade from Escobar's time onwards. Multiple reports also suggest that the story will move from Columbia to Mexico or Brazil, but nobody from the show has confirmed or denied the speculation. Series composer Pedro Bromfman previously hinted that season 2 will see the fall of Escobar along with the Medellin cartel, as the Cali cartel emerges into power. "We start meeting a lot of new characters in Season 2," he said, "and we start understanding how the situation expanded from MedellÃn to Cali and everything that took place."
The network has not yet announced an official premiere date for "Narcos" season 2, but it will likely fall on the latter part of August 2016.
